The idea that one needs a gallery to justify one’s existence as an artist is, I believe, outdated: the gallery is just one venue through which to share a visual vocabulary with others. What’s most important is that an artist is an artist no matter if he or she holds down another job, chooses to follow an untraditional path, remains relatively obscure throughout life, or is represented by a gallery.
