QINMIN is an ongoing research-based work by artist Qinmin Liu.  In it, the artist positions herself as a cultural contradiction. QINMIN is a long-term project comprised of a series of related activities - public performances, an online commercial, a hoodie shop, and social branding. Through autobiographical fragments in the form of story-telling, viewers gain access into the personal life and anxiety of a young Chinese living in two completely different social systems - China and the US. QINMIN is an avatar. She becomes an intersection of cultures and information. Through extensive research and art practice, Liu is looking to locate her culture, reconnecting a part of herself thought to have been destroyed within the Chinese contemporary life of her generation. This revisiting and reconnecting sews together her past and present.
